About Me  Return to Homepage
Me with my I-Net+ Certification Hello and welcome!  My name is Eric and I'm from Manchester, Tennessee.  I was diagnosed with autism at Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1995 at the age of 14.  My autism is mild.  I'm able to talk.  I'm not non-verbal like other people with autism.  In 1994, another condition called Asperger's Syndrome became known and I probably would have been diagnosed with that if it was around.  I feel my diagnosis criteria would now and then fit Asperger's Syndrome.  I have a website that explains more at www.ericsissom.com/autism that I hope you'll enjoy and you may sign my guestbook with your comments.

I took computer classes at the Tennessee Technology Center in Shelbyville, Tennessee and earned 3 CompTIA certificates called:
bulletA+ (About computer hardware and Microsoft Windows)
bulletI-Net+ (About the internet and the web)
bulletNetwork+ (About how to network computers and how the internet works)

I also earned a Microcomputer Specialist Diploma in March, 2002 and a Network Specialist Diploma in June, 2003.

From the fall of 2003 thru spring of 2005, I took the following college computer programming courses online:

bulletProgramming in Visual Basic  (Grade: A)
bulletProgramming in C++  (Grade: B)
bulletComputer Graphics  (Grade: B)
bulletJava Programming I  (Grade: A)
bulletWeb Page Design and Development  (Grade: A)
bulletData Structures  (Grade: D)
bulletJava II  (Grade: C)
bulletAdvanced Web Page/Site Design  (Grade: A)
bulletWeb Page Applications  (Grade: B)
bulletE-Commerce  (Grade: A)
bulletDatabase Programming  (Grade: A)
bulletIntro to Linux  (Grade: A)

Data Structures was advanced programming in C++ and was very hard.  Java II is java data structures in the java programming language; during the course, my grades were looking towards a D, but I pulled off a C at the end.

At this time, I decided to go for an Associate's Degree in Information Technology through the Regents Online Degree Program, so for the fall of 2005 and spring and summer of 2006, I took:

bulletEnglish Composition I  (Grade: B) - I wrote (actually typed) 5 essays!  My first one was about a few of my struggles as a child.  Click here to read it.
bulletGeneral Psychology  (Grade: C) - This was an interesting class.  I was 1 point away from a B.
bulletFundamentals of Public Speaking  (Grade: B) - I had to give 3 speeches!  First speech was on autism, second speech was on my dairy and gluten free diet, and the last speech was on Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Word.
bulletMusic Appreciation  (Grade: A)
bulletBiology  (Grade: D) - This was a very hard course.
bulletIntroduction to Microcomputers  (Grade: A) - Thought I'll get credit for this course from the Tennessee Technology Center, but I did get credit transfer for one course - Networking/PC Communications, but it was a struggle.  It took a lot of e-mails between college officials and myself, but I got it done.
bulletOnline Orientation  (Grade: A) - I should have took this course first!  haha... but I wasn't going for a degree when I started and it was required for my degree, but it would have been waved, but I needed the credit hours.  It was an easy and interesting course about preparing for online courses and making a resume.  My new resume was made at the end of that course with a mission statement added.

I "walked the line" on May 11, 2006 at Motlow State Community College, even through I wasn't finished yet.  They have one graduation ceremony a year.  After I passed the courses during the summer semester, I earned my Associate of Applied Science Degree with Professional Studies in Information Technology (August 11, 2006).

Over the summer I decided to go on and pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology through MTSU (and the Regents Online Degree Program).  For the fall of 2006 and spring of 2007, I took:

bulletEnglish Composition II  (Grade: A)
bulletManagement Information Systems  (Grade: A)
bulletIntroduction to Literature I: Fiction  (Grade: B)
bulletIntroduction to Sociology  (Grade: C) - I was 2 points away from a B.  I actually got an A on a 9-10 page research paper, but had some bad test grades.  The topic for my research paper was about capital punishment, click here to read it.
bulletPrinciples of Management and Organizational Behavior  (Grade: A)
